CERVICAL RIB

It is an extra rib which arises from VII cervical vertibra. The defect is present at birth but noted only later. Occors more common in Females.It may be fully formed bony rib or just a thin stand of tissue fibres which will not show up on any X-ray or MRI scan. If the Extra rib is partially formed it may either end in swelling that shows as a lump in the neck.It may sometimes squash one of the nearby blood vessels or nerves causing numbness in arm and neck pain.These symptoms are collectively known as Thoracic outlet syndrome. Signs and symptoms: In a simplest form it may manifest as the pulse that disappears at your Wrist when the patient takes a deep breath. Diagnosis: By simple X-ray Treatment: Physiotherapy and Surgery
