CRYOTHERAPY

• Cryotherapy is a pain treatment that uses a method of localised freezing temperatures to deaden an irritated nerve • Cryotherapy is also used as a method of treating localised areas of some cancers (called cryosurgery) such as prostate cancer and to treat abnormal skin cells by dermatologists • In Cryotherapy, a probe is inserted into the tissue next to the affected nerve • This is relatively safe and effective means of treating localised nerve irritation • The effect of cold application includes immediate vasoconstriction with reflex vasodilatation, decrease local metabolism and enzymatic activity and decreases oxygen demand • Cold decreases muscle spindle fibre activity shows the nerve conduction velocity. Therefore it is spasticity • It reduces muscle soreness • Ice is very popular modality for treatment in injuries and muscle repair.
