LUMBAR SPONDYLITIS

Spondilosis causes changes in the spine frequently referred to as Osteoarthritis.It can occur through out the spine but the most common location is in the lower portion of the spine where the lumbar spine meets the sacrum. Causes: • Genetic – About 90% of population with Spondylitis have a specific gene called HLA B-27 • It is common in the ages of 17-45 years • More common in males Signs and symptoms: • Pain and stiffness in the neck or back • Loss of mobility in the spine • Inability to twist and turn without the pain • Chronic discomfort when standing,Sitting and walking • Deformity or abnormal spine curvature Treatment: • Conservative measures • Physical Therapy
