It is a medical condition involving impairment in motor or sensory function of the lower extremities. Common injuries and other causes include. 1. Broken neck 2. Broken back 3. Stroke 4. Spinal cord injury 5. Genetic disorder 6. Infection 7. Auto immune diseases Causes • Most commonly it is a result of accident which occur more in the male population between 15-35 years and causes traumatic injury to the spinal cord. • Trauma to the spinal cord and brain • Accidents may fall under vehicle accidents, sports accidents, gun-shot or suicide attempt. • Work place and household injuries are most commonly the result of falls, diving accident, electrocution or blast injuries. • Spinal injections or toxins which damage the nerves. • The Inflammation of the membranes surrounding the spinal nerves. • Pathological spinal fractures as in degenerative bone diseases. • Surgical accidents Symptoms & Science 1. Uncomfortable tingling or burning Urinary 1. Leaking of urine 2. Diagnosis 3. By medical history and physical exam. 4. CT scan. 5. MRI Scan. 6. Myelography. 7. Lumbar puncture. 8. Evoked potential nerve test. Treatment • Emergency treatment is required to prevent further damage to the nervous system • Steroids can be given
