SPINAL CORD STENOSIS

It is an abnormal narrowing (Stenosis) of the spinal cord that may occur in any region of spine. Mostly occurs in adults over 50 years Causes: • Osteoarthritis can lead to disc changes, thickening of ligaments of spine and bone spurs. This can put pressure on the spinal cord and spinal nerves. • Herniated Disc – If the cushions are cracked, material can seep out and press on spinal cord or nerves • Injuries – An accident may fracture or inflame part of your spine • Tumors – If cancerous growth touches the spinal cord leads to spinal stenosis • Pagets Disease – With this condition your bones grow abnormally large and brittle.The result is the narrowing of the spinal canal and nerve problems Signs and Symptoms: • Sciatica • Foot drop • Loss of bladder and Bowel control Diagnosis: X-Rays,MRI and CT scan Treatment: Medications,Anesthetics,Cartico steroids injections,orthotics,physiotherapy and surgery
